FALL 2011/WINTER 2012

An Appeal For Donations

In order to air the opinions of the rest of us, Konch has operated as a very low budget Zine, since 1990.

We began as a print publication and switched to online in the late 1990s. We don’t take our orders from Slate, AOL, or any bank, fast foods chain or from publishers who sponsor literary organizations like the corporate National Book Awards. We have no overseers. We are neither proxies for the left nor for the right. In fact, I, as publisher, have received criticism from progressive’s Salon.com as well as from far right Manhattan Institute’s City Journal which is funded by Chase Manhattan Bank? I’ve been hit by both The National Review and The Revolutionary Communist Party, which recently made an alliance with Barbara Bush. You know that I love it! You know.

Staff? What staff? Me, Tennessee Reed, Noor Productions are responsible for getting Konch out.

We have a donation box that is gathering cobwebs. As lonely as the Maytag repair man. This year we received donations from four people who are not afraid to be associated with Konch’s sometimes ranting and raving and “rowdiness” ( Salon’s Miss Laura Miller’s description of my prose).

We want to thank Thomas Durst, J.R.Johnson and Gwendoline Fortune and Michael Bailey for this year’s total of $160.00 in contributions. Gwendoline Fortune is in her 80s.

Now our past contributors are complaining that issues of Konch have not been archived. They have a right to complain, but archiving will cost money.

Those who wish to donate funds for this project could send contributions to Konch. For a tax deduction make checks out to:

Ishmael Reed Publishing Company
Ishmael Reed Publishing, Co. Box 3288
Berkeley, CA 94703

We promise that we won’t spend it on three hour lunches at the Four Seasons, in an effort to woo a corporate approved authors.

Thanks for the word of encouragement from throughout the world over the last twenty years. It gives us the courage to plod on with, in the words of Gundars Strads, “Blind Persistence.”

Ishmael Reed
